Professional Bio
Michael May, PhD, MD, CDES, FACP, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
He studied protein biochemistry in the College of Graduate Studies of the Medical University of South Carolina. He then earned his medical degree at the College of Medicine of the Medical University of South Carolina. Postdoctoral research training in metabolic biochemistry at MUSC was followed by residency in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed endocrinology fellowship at the University of Virginia.
Dr. May has participated as diabetologist in the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial. He is currently local principal investigator in the Epidemiology of Diabetes Complications Trial, the observational follow-up of the DCCT. He serves on the Publications Committee of the EDIC trial. He has participated in numerous pharmaceutical clinical trials. He is currently local principal investigator in the SOUL and FOCUS trials.
Dr. May practices general endocrinology in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center hospital and Eskind Diabetes Clinic as well as the endocrinology service at the Nashville Veterans Administration Medical Center.
