ADFP Requirements

Traditional, licensed applicant

  1. M.D. degree from an institution registered in the World Directory of Medical Schools
  2. Residency Training in Internal Medicine or equivalent
  3. Hold a current, active, valid, unrestricted, and unqualified license to practice medicine in at least one jurisdiction in the United States, its territories or Canada, and in each jurisdiction in which they practice. If license is restricted must provide explanation to Program Director.
  4. Board Certification. Faculty Diplomate applicants may include: 1) an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) member board or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), 2) a specialty certification board of the American Osteopathic Association, 3) an appropriate board of the European Union of Medical Specialists, or 4) the medical board of the applicant's country of origin, such board to be approved by the Certification Council.

Qualifies for United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS) certification examination after fellowship requirements are met.

Non-traditional, non-licensed applicant

  1. Medical degree from an institution registered in the World Directory of Medical Schools
  2. Residency Training in Internal Medicine or equivalent
  3. Since non-licensed, must provide explanation to Program Director.
  4. ECGMG certified

If this applicant is looking at applying for the UNCS certification examination, they would need to have completed the fellowship, completed residency, have an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state they practice, and met the required 36 months of practice time in Autonomic disorders. Residency time does not count towards meeting the 36 months of practice time.
