Information on COVID-19 Policies

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a continuously evolving landscape in which we practice medicine. From the start of the pandemic, Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has been at the forefront of organizing initiatives to uphold the highest standards of patient care while preserving the safety of its house staff.

The Department of Medicine and the VUMC Office of Graduate Medical Education recognize that nephrology services provide a vital resource to many patients with COVID-19 that few others are able to provide, dialytic therapy. Our fellowship program leadership has policies in place to maximize fellow safety as well as conserve personal protective equipment. Additionally, our large class size allows for certain fellows to cover essential services while the remainder shelter at home to preserve workforce availability.

We will continue to evaluate and update our practices as this situation changes. For the latest information related to VUMC's policies and practices related to COVID-19, please visit and/or download the VUMC2Go mobile application.
