Dr. Melvin Echols is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiovascular Disease) with the Department of Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine. He is also currently the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program Director and the Associate Director of Clinical Research for the Cardiovascular Research Institute, under the direction of Dr. Herman Taylor. Dr. Echols’ primary area of focus is heart failure treatment of underserved populations.
Dr. Echols graduated from Morehouse School of Medicine in 2002 and completed Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease residency/fellowship training at Duke University in 2010.
Dr. Echols provides care to a diverse population of cardiac patients and has focused research efforts on heart failure, quality improvement, clinical trial equity of underrepresented participants, and health care disparities. He is a member of the Association of Black Cardiologists, and a fellow member of the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Failure Society of America, and the American Society of Preventive Cardiology. Dr. Echols serves on the social media editorial board for JACC-HF and co-leads the Diversity Task Force of the Journal of Cardiac Failure. He is a member of the National Heart Failure Collaboratory and most currently the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion officer for the American College of Cardiology. serves on the National Heart Failure Collaboratory. Dr. Echols also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Cardiac Failure and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
