Effective Team Building part II

High performing teams are essential to achieve shared goals and promote optimal outcomes within organizations. Characteristics of high performing teams include effective communication, reliance on one another within the work which builds trust, effective conflict management, high levels of commitment to the work, individual and team accountability, focus on collective outcomes and results.  The session will overview characteristics of high performing teams as well as provide tools and resources for you to effectively build and lead high performing teams within your division.

Ms. Tammy Key from Human Resources will lead the first in two planned workshops on team building.

Platinum Rule was developed by Dr. Tony Alassandra and is based on the premise, “Do unto others as they’d like done unto them.”  This assessment provides you with a framework for looking at human behavior while increasing your knowledge of your unique communication preferences.   It will help you to see how people are motivated in different and distinct ways due to these different communication preferences.  Learn how to minimize misunderstandings and appreciate and accept differences in style.

Recent Grant Recipients Panel

We will have a panel discussion with some recent senior faculty who have successfully obtained either a new RO1 grant or renewed an RO1. They will provide tips on successful NIH grant writing.

In the current funding climate it is very important that we send out the very best proposals. I am sure we can all benefit from hearing the perspectives of these recent grant recipients!

"Navigating the Foundation Funding Landscape"

In the current economic climate it is even more critical that we all are aware of and take advantage of alternative funding sources that are applicable to our area of research.
Dr. Brady and her team have developed relationships with many different foundations. She will inform you of available resources here at Vanderbilt and will provide advice on how to identify which foundations are right for you and how to be sure to target your research proposal to a foundation of interest.
