Allison Leigh (Smith) Schwall, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health, Section of Hospital Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Washington and Lee University and earned her Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Schwall completed her internship and residency training in internal medicine at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center. She worked as an attending at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-Dallas for two years before joining the Vanderbilt Section of Hospital Medicine in 2010.
Dr. Schwall has held several notable leadership roles during her career at Vanderbilt, and she currently serves as Associate Chief of Staff for the Medical Segment at Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital and Medical Director for the Transition Management Office. Dr. Schwall's academic interests include transitions of care, hospital throughput and capacity, and readmissions.
