Catherine Mannon Deffendall, MD, is a Lexington, Ky., native who completed her undergraduate degree at Centre College prior to attending medical school at the University of Kentucky. She relocated to Nashville, Tenn., for an Internal Medicine-Pediatric residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. While in residency, Dr. Deffendall was involved in multiple leadership positions and educational pursuits in both the Medicine and Pediatric residency programs, and hopes to be involved in academic medicine throughout her career. She is eager to stay on as the Medicine-Pediatrics chief for 2021-2022. Following her chief year, Dr. Deffendall plans to pursue a combined adult and pediatric Rheumatology fellowship. Her husband, Patrick Deffendall, is an actuary, and while away from work they enjoy hiking with their dog Cooper, with the goal of visiting every National Park.
