Fabian Bock, MD, PhD
University of Heidelberg
Sub-specialty Interest – Nephrology
Fabian grew up in northern Germany. After he left High School he went to Medical School at the University of Heidelberg (founded in 1386), an old romantic city in mountainous southern Germany. Besides the rich scientific environment he enjoyed the beautiful old town and its fireworks illuminating the old castle – its constructions started around 1214! Heidelberg though having quite ancient buildings offers highly modern research opportunities and thus got Fabian interested early in medical school. From cells to fruit flies to mice and their kidneys he enjoys the whole spectrum of research, which even took him to Magdeburg in eastern Germany, where his mentor had moved. Working there as a resident in one of the biggest lipid clinics, it was a clinical rotation to MD Anderson in Texas that got Fabian very enthusiastic about coming to the States and pursuing a physician scientist program. In addition to exploring the vibrant city of Nashville, Fabian is fascinated by the friendly culture at Vanderbilt and thrilled to become part of it.
