Professional Bio
Harvey Murff, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and a researcher in the VA Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System.
He completed an Internal Medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City where he remained as Chief Medical Resident. He then went on to complete a fellowship in General Internal Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he obtained his master’s in public health at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Murff's research interests include nutritional and cancer epidemiology, chemoprevention of colorectal cancer, and the impact of polyunsaturated fatty acids on inflammation and behavior. He has conducted observational and interventional studies and has received support for his research from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
He is the author for over 100 manuscripts and book chapters. He is the co-chair for the Cancer Prevention, Screening, and Health Promotion Peer Review Committee for the American Cancer Society and a Deputy Editor for the journal ACP Journal Club. Dr. Murff currently serves on the Medical Advisory Board for Fight Colorectal Cancer an Advocacy Organization.
Dr. Murff's clinical practice is as an attending on the Acute Care for Elders unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
