Professional Bio

Heather Ridinger, MD, MHPE, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health.

She is a practicing primary care physician at Vanderbilt where she is heavily involved in medical education at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She has developed and continues to lead the Foundations of Healthcare Delivery courses as co-course director. Foundations of Healthcare Delivery (FHD) is a longitudinal series of required courses taught throughout all four years of the medical school curriculum and covers the breadth of health systems sciences. As the Associate Clerkship Director for the Internal Medicine Clerkship, Dr. Ridinger teaches and mentors medical students in their core clinical rotation in Internal Medicine. She attends on the inpatient teaching services and is a continuity clinic preceptor for Internal Medicine residents.

In addition to her teaching and administrative roles at Vanderbilt, Dr. Ridinger is involved nationally as a leader in the American Medical Association (AMA) Accelerating Change in Medical Education consortium and is the recipient of AMA research grants for health systems science research among entering residents. Dr. Ridinger was selected as an Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) LEAD Fellow and continues to be involved in the Tennessee Chapter Early Career Physicians council for the American College of Physicians.  She is passionate about improving the health of the community, promoting person-centered care and caregiving, educating future physicians, and contributing to medical education scholarship.
