Kathryn Ivy Sunthankar, MD
Hematology/Oncology, Palliative Care
Katie was born in Nashville, however, she spent most of her childhood in Knoxville with her younger brother and sister. She knew she had to come back at some point and returned to Vanderbilt for undergrad and majored in Molecular Biology and Classics. As much as she loved her time in the Southeast she wanted to try living up North and moved to NYC to do translational oncology research following graduation. She enjoyed the hustle and bustle of city life so much that she then went to Boston for medical school at Boston University. While in medical school she had the opportunity to do leukemia research here at Vanderbilt in between her third and fourth year, and realized it was time to come home! She has enjoyed living in Nashville during residency and despite the busy resident schedule has still been able to whip up quite a few batches of cookies, go to some barre classes and hang out with her amazing co-residents.
