Dr. Matheny is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but moved to Nashville to complete her residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt, where she also stayed on for fellowship. She is now delighted to join the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. Leslee is committed to teaching and has enjoyed leading case-based group discussions with first-year medical students during their endocrinology block, as well as evaluating their standardized patient interviews. She has co-authored a book chapter on diabetes complications, has had multiple case reports accepted to peer-reviewed journals, and has also presented endocrine cases at national meetings. She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and served as chief fellow during her training. Research interests are varied and include bone and mineral metabolism, particularly normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism (and subsequent risk for recurrent kidney stones), as well as the endocrine side effects of targeted cancer therapies. Personally, she enjoys reading fiction, painting, baking, and outdoor activities such as hiking and canoeing.
