Professional Bio

Mohana Karlekar, MD, is the Section Chief of Palliative Care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is the Associate Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship. She is also an Associate Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health within the Department of Medicine at VUMC.

She earned her MD from SUNY at Stony Brook and completed internal medicine residency training at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York. Her area of expertise is the intersection of palliative care and trauma and cystic fibrosis, and she has published and presented nationally on this topic.

Dr. Karlekar was previously the recipient of the Hugh Jackson Morgan Teaching Award, an Honoree in the Alpha Omega Association, and recipient of The Leonard Tow Humanism Award. She is currently the chair of the state palliative care task force and is a member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma's Palliative Care Committee.
