Assistant Professor of Medicine

Professional Bio

Dr. Paul Epstein graduated with honors from Princeton University and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He completed medical school at Yale University and completed his internal medicine residency at Northwestern University. At the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Epstein completed fellowship training in endocrinology and diabetes. He entered into clinical practice and for 28 years attended to patients in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. His primary area of interest is diabetes, and he believes strongly in taking full care of his patients--not only through glucose control, but also by addressing the usual associated risk factors of hypertension and elevated cholesterol. He has also treated general endocrine patients with thyroid disease, pituitary disease, and osteoporosis. Dr. Epstein believes that the privilege of practicing medicine is the best possible profession, and he looks forward to continuing his personal care of patients in the university setting at Vanderbilt. Other interests include traveling with his wife on her research forays and visiting national parks.
