Professional Bio
Ana Serezani, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Serezani's research focuses on revealing immune cells critical to the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. Her laboratory uses innovative single-cell approaches to investigate the phenotype and the transcriptional activation of macrophages, dendritic cells, and T cells overrepresented in the fibrotic lungs of affected individuals. These approaches help to define the primary regulators of inflammation and fibrosis. She then integrates models of pulmonary fibrosis as a translational way to investigate the fundamental mechanisms leading to the recruitment and activation of immune cells in the lungs.
Dr. Serezani is interested in the intersection of an aged immune system that leads to a dysfunctional and inappropriate lung micro-injury, such as during the reactivation of latent herpesviruses. Her ultimate goal is to develop therapeutic interventions to restore immune functions and homeostasis and prevent pulmonary fibrosis.
