Professional Bio
Augusto Dulanto Chiang, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases. He obtained his medical degree in 2011 from the Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru, and completed an Internal Medicine residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He did an Infectious Diseases Fellowship and Advanced Infectious Diseases and Genomics Fellowship at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Dulanto Chiang practiced as Staff Clinician in the Bacterial Pathogenesis and Antimicrobial Resistance Unit at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from 2019 to 2023, where he undertook a large scale ongoing genomic and transcriptomic project in the pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. During that time, he played a role as attending physician in the NIAID Infectious Diseases consults service at the NIH Clinical Center and as faculty of the ACGME-accredited NIAID Infectious Diseases Fellowship training program. Dr. Dulanto Chiang joined VUMC in 2023, and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Microbiology.
