Professional Bio
Bradley Richmond, MD, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary, and Critical Care Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and Assistant Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt University (VU).
He completed his baccalaureate degree at the University of Evansville and his medical degree at the University of Louisville. He completed residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine from VUMC and received a PhD in cell and developmental biology from VU. He is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine.
Dr. Richmond's research interests include the mechanisms through which chronic inhalation of noxious substances leads to small airways disease in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and deployment-related respiratory disease, with a particular focus on the role of the small airway epithelium. His group utilizes multiple model systems including primary human and mouse airway epithelial cell culture, multiple in vivo model systems, and single-cell based analyses of human lung tissue. He also has an interest in novel imaging-based approaches to detecting small airways disease. His work has been funded by the American Lung Association, NIH, and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Dr. Richmond attends at the Nashville VA where he sees patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. His outpatient clinic is focused primarily on COPD and deployment-related lung disease, and he is the site leader for the Nashville branch of the VA's Post-Deployment Cardiopulmonary Evaluation Network.
