Professional Bio
Brian Lindman, MD, MSCI, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of the Structural Heart and Valve Center in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. His clinical areas of expertise are cardiovascular medicine, heart valve diseases, and echocardiography.
Dr. Lindman's research is focused on calcific aortic stenosis, including elucidating pathophysiology and developing tools to personalize when the aortic valve is replaced; and identifying adjunctive interventions before and after aortic valve replacement to optimize patient-centered outcomes.
More specifically, his research covers these intersecting areas: 1. the clinical consequences and underlying mechanisms of cardiac remodeling and dysfunction in aortic stenosis; 2. the use of circulating proteomics to discover novel mechanisms of cardiac remodeling and develop molecular tools useful in clinical management of aortic stenosis; 3. the role of biomarkers in facilitating precision timing of aortic valve replacement; 4. the role of medical therapy to slow progressive valve obstruction, protect the pressure overloaded heart, or facilitate recovery and reverse remodeling after aortic valve replacement; and 5. novel ways to leverage mobile health to facilitate in-home cardiac rehabilitation after transcatheter valve procedures.
Dr. Lindman is an integral member of his institution's multidisciplinary heart valve team, leading its integration of clinical and research objectives. He is a member of several writing groups for the American College of Cardiology (ACC), including the Appropriate Use Criteria for Aortic Stenosis and a clinical policy document on advanced valve centers. He also plays a leadership role in the AHA Target AS initiative. By participating in these national efforts, he seeks to play a role in shaping new systems of care for patients with valve disease that improve patient-centered outcomes.
Dr. Lindman is on the editorial boards for leading cardiovascular journals, including JACC and Circulation, and actively publishes original research manuscripts in these and other journals. He has been the recipient of numerous NIH, foundation, and industry grants.
