Professional Bio
Christy Claiborne, MSSW, is an Assistant in Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She earned her BA in psychology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, graduating summa cum laude. After two years of direct care work in behavioral health, Christy returned to UTK, earning her MSSW. Following graduation, Claiborne worked as a clinical therapist in a community mental health center utilizing an integrated care model and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2009. For the next eight years, she held various clinical and supervisory roles and behavioral health treatment centers in the East Tennessee area, developing an interest in the effects of trauma on life functioning and overall wellness. She went on to complete training in EMDR, an evidenced-based treatment of past trauma-related distress and present life conditions. In 2017, Claiborne was offered the Social Worker 2 position in the new extensivist program known as Vanderbilt Familiar Faces. Christy is very excited to be a member of this new multi-disciplinary team in a program that’s part of a growing segment of the medicine field.
