Professional Bio
Chunhua Dai, MD, is a Research Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is a cell biologist and focuses on studying function, characterization, and gene expression of primary human erythroid progenitors and pancreatic islet cells in vitro and in vivo. As part of the research team of Dr. Alvin Powers, she has led and participated in multiple projects as co-investigator or key personnel. She is involved in all steps of the research, including experimental design, execution, and manuscript preparation. She is currently leading several projects to use GeoMx and CosMx Spatial Molecular Imaging (SMI) and xeno-transplantation technology to interrogate transcriptomic changes in human pancreatic islets associated with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Since 1989, Dr. Dai has published 52 articles and two book chapters, 23 of which she is the first author. Her manuscripts have been published in highly respected journals, such as Nature Medicine, Science Advance, Cell Metabolism, Journal of Clinical Investigation, PNAS, Cell Reports, Blood, and Diabetes. She has trained 17 fellows, 16 medical and graduate students, and 14 research technologists.
