Professional Bio
Colleen Morton, MBBCH, MS, is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Clinical Director for Classical Hematology, Division of Hematology and Oncology, and Medical Director for Anticoagulation Stewardship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She specializes in all aspects of classical hematology including anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, bleeding and thrombotic disorders as well as porphyria.
Dr. Morton completed medical school at the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School, Johannesburg, South Africa. She then did her internal medicine residency, hematology and oncology fellowship and masters in clinical research at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Morton’s primary area of interest is in systems-based hematology. This involves the standardization of management of hematological disorders and the development of innovative pathways, to make it easy for everyone to deliver the best hematological care. Standardization of management ensures that best practices and guidelines are followed throughout a healthcare system. It also ensures patient safety and cost containment, with oversight of resources.
Dr. Morton is a member of multiple American Society of Hematology committees and is also on the NCCN Committee for Cancer-Associated Venous Thromboembolic Disease Guidelines.
