Professional Bio
David D. Hagaman, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary, and Critical Care Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He currently serves as medical director for Vanderbilt Asthma, Sinus, and Allergy Program Outreach and will expand the VASAP program in Williamson County and additional external locations. Dr. Hagaman graduated cum laude from Bowling Green State University and completed his MD degree at Ohio State University in Columbus. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, and at the Ohio State University in Columbus. He remained at Ohio State for a pulmonary and critical care training fellowship, then studied at Vanderbilt as an allergy and immunology fellow. Dr. Hagaman later entered private practice and was appointed to the Vanderbilt faculty as an adjunct professor. He subsequently joined the lab of Dr. Dean Metcalfe at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, where he performed research on mast cell receptors and shared in allergy/immunology consultations. Dr. Hagaman returned to Vanderbilt in 2001 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonology, and Immunology and Director of the Allergy/Immunology training program. He became involved in every major area of the allergy/immunology program at Vanderbilt and served as Chief Operating Officer of the Vanderbilt Asthma, Sinus, and Allergy Program from 2001 to 2012. In 2012, Dr. Hagaman left Vanderbilt to become the Chief Medical Officer for BreatheAmerica. In addition, he established a clinical research network for airway disease that involved multiple sites around the country. He returned to Vanderbilt as an Assistant Professor of Medicine to take a leadership role in developing and improving Vanderbilt’s clinical outreach programs. Dr. Hagaman has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI).
