David Ray
Interests

David was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He stayed home for college to receive his BS in biology from The University of Memphis. While there, he also met his wife. After working as an ER scribe for two years, he moved to Nashville to obtain an MS in health sciences at Meharry Medical College. After receiving his master’s degree, he moved to Dallas, Texas, where his wife was finishing her speech pathologist degree. While in Dallas, he became an avid Mavericks fan, but he still roots for his hometown Memphis Grizzlies (Go Grizz!). He and his wife returned to Nashville, where he received his MD from Meharry, and she started her Ph.D. in special education at Vanderbilt’s Peabody College. During his time at Meharry, some of his notable work focused on tutoring, creating policies to improve medical education, and founding a cardiology interest group where members gave lectures on preventing cardiovascular disease to local schools. David spends most of his time with his son when he is not in the hospital. Still, he also enjoys cooking, running, weightlifting, and pickleball. He plans to pursue a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine and become a clinician-educator. He is thrilled to become a member of the Vandy family!
