Director, Vanderbilt Translational and Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center

Deepak Gupta
Professional Bio
Deepak Gupta, MD, MSCI, is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Director of the Vanderbilt Translational and Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center, and Director of the Vanderbilt Heart Imaging Core Lab in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He completed undergraduate education at Emory University and obtained his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He trained in Internal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center and Cardiovascular Medicine at Northwestern University and then completed an NIH T32 research fellowship in Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Imaging at Brigham and Women's Hospital. In 2013, Dr. Gupta joined faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he obtained his Master of Science in Clinical Investigation as a NIH K12 Scholar. Sub-specialization in cardiology allows Dr. Gupta to identify clinical issues facing patients, which motivates his research. As a physician-scientist, he leads a clinical research program investigating mechanisms for the development of and outcomes in cardiometabolic disease and its sequelae, particularly heart failure. Dr. Gupta's research examines differential susceptibility to cardiometabolic disease and heart failure with a focus on the natriuretic peptide system and sodium. This program provides an environment through which he mentors trainees in research with the goal of developing physician-scientists. Clinically, Dr. Gupta attends on inpatient cardiology services, cares for patients through his dedicated heart failure with preserved ejection fraction clinic, and reads echocardiograms.
