Professional Bio
Derek Damin, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Damin was born and raised in Owensboro, Kentucky. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Louisville in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and minor in Psychology. He entered the University of Louisville School of Medicine as part of the GEMS (Guaranteed Entrance into Medical School) Program, earning his Medical Degree in 1999. He completed a categorical Internal Medicine residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center and then completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He was in private practice in Louisville for several years but remained involved in teaching with a gratis faculty appointment as Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He returned to Vanderbilt in 2022 as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine on the clinical practice track. In fellowship, he authored a chapter on skin testing in the Manual of Molecular and Clinical Laboratory Immunology. He was given the Teaching Allergist of the Year award in 2007, as named by the AAAAI Primary Care Rotations in Allergy and Pierson Visitation Program Task Force and the AAAAI Board of Directors. He has received numerous "Top Doc" community awards in the practice of Allergy and Immunology, is past president of the Greater Louisville Allergy Society and has served as an Allergy Board Consultant for the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI). Dr. Damin sees patients at the Vanderbilt Asthma, Sinus & Allergy Program. He has various interests including allergen skin testing, component resolved diagnostic testing in food allergy, common variable immune deficiency and patient understanding of immune mechanisms of disease.
