Professional Bio
Beth Ann Yakes, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and a General Internist in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is a primary care provider at Vanderbilt Internal Medicine Primary Care North Clinic at One Hundred Oaks where she routinely precepts clinical students in training. She supervises residents in clinic and serves as an attending on the general Internal Medicine inpatient services at VUMC. At Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dr. Yakes serves as the course director of The Learning Communities, a four-year longitudinal course focused on the professional development of undergraduate medical students. As an associate program director for the Internal Medicine residency program, Dr. Yakes leads an Intern Ambulatory Clinic Didactics series and a quarterly Morbidity, Mortality and Improvement Conference. Additionally, she has developed a comprehensive resident remediation and coaching program to provide structured coaching for struggling learners. Dr. Yakes has studied factors contributing to physician burnout and well-being at VUMC and serves as the faculty director of the VWell support team facilitating systems interventions across multiple departments at VUMC for the purpose of empowering physician well-being. Her medical education research interests include evaluating the impact of her medical education curricula and studying wellness promotion at the student and faculty levels.
