Professional Bio
Emily Kobin, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine within the Division of Internal Medicine and Public Health, Section of Palliative Care, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
After graduating from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, she completed an Internal Medicine residency in Pittsburgh. She completed her fellowship in Palliative Care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) and stayed on as faculty following graduation.
Dr. Kobin's primary area of interest is education, specifically training clinicians to effectively communicate with their patients, strengthening the patient-provider relationship. She also invests her time in teaching students, house staff, and fellows the importance of goals-based care and straightforward patient relationships.
Dr. Kobin's interests also include normalizing and furthering the use of telemedicine in palliative care. She served as DHMC's co-principal investigator in a multicenter trial researching how providing palliative care via telemedicjne (versus in-person care) affects cancer patients' quality of life. In her own practice, Dr. Kobin attempts to listen to what is important to her patients, ensuring that those wishes guide their medical care plan.
Dr. Kobin aims to create a safe space in which her patients and their care partners can discuss both physical and psychological concerns. She is a practicing outpatient palliative care physician at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center at both the Vanderbilt midtown Nashville and Belle Meade campuses.
