Professional Bio
Emily L. Morrow, PhD, MS, CCC-SLP, is a rehabilitation researcher and a Research Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is a certified speech-language pathologist with clinical experience in hospital, acute rehabilitation, and outpatient settings. She holds specialty certification in traumatic brain injury from the Brain Injury Association of America.
Dr. Morrow received her PhD in Hearing and Speech Sciences from Vanderbilt University. She came to the Department of Medicine as a postdoctoral fellow through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Patient/pRactice Outcomes Research in Effectiveness and Systems Science (PROgRESS) T32 program before joining the faculty. Dr. Morrow’s research aims to advance the science, application, and implementation of interventions that support people with cognitive and communication dysfunction in managing their health. She has a particular focus on understanding the unique needs of people with cognitive dysfunction in managing chronic conditions, including diabetes and traumatic brain injury, and designing tailored tools to support them.
Dr. Morrow’s work has been funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders and the ASHFoundation. She is supported by the Vanderbilt Faculty Research Scholars program to conduct mixed-methods research to better understand the support needs of people with type 2 diabetes and cognitive dysfunction in managing their health. She also develops technology-delivered tools to assess and manage memory disorders for people with chronic traumatic brain injury.
