Fubiao Shi, PhD

Research Assistant Professor of Medicine

Division of Cardiovascular Medicine
Fubiao Shi
Professional Bio
Fubiao Shi, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He completed his undergraduate training in Biological Sciences at Huazhong Agricultural University in Wuhan, China and completed his PhD training in Genetics and Developmental Biology at Fudan University in Shanghai. He pursued his postdoctoral training to study metabolic disease and signaling at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Shi has a long-term research interest in obesity and cardiometabolic disease with a focus on the signaling mechanism of the brown adipocyte thermogenic program. He has made important discoveries demonstrating the metabolic effect of cardiac natriuretic peptides and salt-inducible kinases in adipose tissue. These basic research findings not only provided new insight into adipose tissue biology but also revealed the potential targets for the intervention of cardiovascular disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes and related metabolic disorders.
