Professional Bio
Garrett Kaas, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, specializing in neuroepigenetics. Dr. Kaas earned his PhD from the University of Iowa. His research interests largely focus on how epigenetic mechanisms regulating DNA and RNA contribute to nervous system function. His recent efforts have focused on the role that Ten-Eleven Translocation (TET) 1 methylcytosine dioxygenase gene isoforms play in regulating neuronal gene expression, physiology and cognition in the mammalian brain. Now in the lab of Dr. Eric Gamazon, Dr. Kaas leverages his expertise in neuroscience and epigenetics to investigate the functionality and causality of genetic variants associated with neurological disorders.
