Mayo is originally from Port Arthur, Texas, and graduated from the University of Houston with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Nutrition. Before medical school, he conducted biomarker research at MD Anderson Cancer Center, taught high school physics, and volunteered as a USA-certified boxing coach. He earned his medical degree from McGovern Medical School at UT Health Houston with distinction in Molecular and Translational Medicine for his work on drug repurposing for the treatment of Sézary Syndrome. He plans to pursue academic dermatology with a continued focus on research in molecular medicine. He enjoys spending time with his wife and family, attending church, and being outdoors.
