Professional Bio
Jennifer Lewis, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She earned a Bachelor of Science from the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Sciences. She then worked at the National Cancer Institute for two years in a core laboratory focused on antibody/protein purification and cancer assay development as part of the NIH post-baccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award program. She earned a Master in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University and worked at the Cancer Project (a nonprofit focused on nutrition for cancer patients) as her master's practicum. She graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine in the research track and completed her Internal Medicine internship and residency at Wake Forest University. During residency, she was a Tinsley R. Harrison Research Scholar and studied lung cancer screening implementation. Following residency, Dr. Lewis served as one of the internal medicine chief residents. She completed her fellowship in medical oncology at Vanderbilt. Following fellowship, she matriculated into Vanderbilt's Master of Public Health (MPH) program and was a VA Quality Scholar Fellow. Dr. Lewis is a physician-scientist focused on health services research and implementation science in lung cancer early detection and prevention. Other interests include the treatment of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies, including targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and novel therapies as part of clinical trials aimed to improve patient survival and quality of life.
