Jennifer Whisenant Amundson, PhD

Research Assistant Professor of Medicine

Division of Hematology Oncology
Jennifer Whisenant Amundson
Professional Bio
Dr. Whisenant has been a part of the Vanderbilt community since 2006. After finishing a Masters of Biomedical Engineering degree in 2008, she started pre-doctoral training under the direction of Dr. Thomas Yankeelov in the Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science. After receiving her PhD in 2013, Dr. Whisenant stayed in the laboratory of Dr. Yankeelov as a post-doc where her research focused on developing new MRI techniques for breast cancer detection and treatment monitoring. In this role, she was responsible for managing IRB protocols, collecting and analyzing patient data, and publication of results. This experience was invaluable when she transitioned in 2015 to Research Assistant Professor working with Dr. Jordan Berlin. Currently, she provides clinical research support to multiple faculty within the Division of Hematology & Oncology, including GI, Breast, and Phase I. Dr. Whisenant is also a member of SWERV, which is a medical writing service for faculty within the Division. Her strengths include assisting with investigator-initiated trial development, drafting clinical trial protocols, scientific grant development and management, and clinical data analysis.
