Professional Bio
Jie Ping, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Epidemiology, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Ping received his PhD from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In 2016, he joined Vanderbilt University as a research fellow and became a staff scientist in the Division of Epidemiology in 2018. In 2022, he was promoted to Research Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Epidemiology.
With over 15 years of solid training and extensive experience in multiple disciplines, including bioinformatics, biostatistics, and genetic epidemiology, Dr. Ping's research primarily focuses on mechanisms, risk factors, and racial disparities of various forms of carcinogenesis, particularly breast and colorectal cancers. His work encompasses a wide range of bioinformatic and epidemiological topics, such as high-throughput sequencing data, polygenic risk scores, and machine learning algorithms. During his postdoctoral periods, he received three research grants from institutes in China and Sweden.
Over the past decade, Dr. Ping has led and published more than 10 first or co-first author peer-reviewed papers and has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, including contributions to high-impact journals such as Cell, Nature Genetics, and the American Journal of Human Genetics. Additionally, Dr. Ping serves as an editor and manuscript reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. He also provides bioinformatics training for visiting scholars, post-doctoral researchers, and PhD candidates at the Vanderbilt Epidemiology Center.
