Professional Bio
Jill Pulley, MBA, is Research Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Executive Director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR). She focuses on enterprise-scale innovation in translational science infrastructure locally and nationally. Pulley has a BS in Psychology from Yale University and an MBA from The Wharton School in Strategic Management. Her work has spanned healthcare and healthcare research management for 30 years. Under Ms. Pulley’s management, VICTR has developed significant infrastructure to support, manage, and coordinate collaborative, transdisciplinary research through the cultivation of a robust project management program over many years that has been successful in catalyzing a transformational effect on translational science. Ms. Pulley has been a leading architect of flagship programs at VUMC including BioVU and PREDICT. Prior to academia, when in the pharmaceutical industry, she led cross-functional launch teams with membership from supply chain, regulatory, legal, medical affairs, and development, whose mission was to ensure product launch preparedness. Ms. Pulley is deeply concerned about inequities in access to medications, and is currently leading a unique drug repurposing program, which leverages naturally occurring human genetic variation as proxy for the physiologic effects of drug treatment in humans. This program seeks to accelerate the availability of targeted therapies for new indications, which can have broad applicability across the spectrum of human disease. Her work has led to several patient applications. Ms. Pulley and her team focus on widely affordable and accessible generic therapeutics with established safety profiles, a fast path to health impact, and disease targets representing internationally recognized unmet medical needs. The program also makes formal submissions to modify the Essential Medicines List (EML), managed by the World Health Organization (WHO), which guide inventory priorities within all functioning health systems around the world. Across all areas of science management, Ms. Pulley has co-authored 75 papers.
