Professional Bio
Jonathan Kropski, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is a physician-scientist with strong interest in interstitial lung diseases. He has a secondary appointment as Associate Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology. His biomedical research interests include investigating the genetic basis of interstitial lung diseases and the molecular mechanisms underlying lung injury, repair and fibrosis. His laboratory utilizes genetic, genomic, and single-cell biology approaches together with cell and transgenic animal models to study lung epithelial injury and repair. He completed his baccalaureate degree (cum laude) at Davidson College in North Carolina and received his MD degree from Vanderbilt University in 2008. He completed his internal medicine residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship through the Physician-Scientist Training Program (Harrison Society) at Vanderbilt. Dr. Kropski works closely with a diverse network of collaborators across numerous departments at Vanderbilt on studies related to lung development, injury-repair and fibrosis. He has received numerous awards for his academic achievements, including a Parker B. Francis Fellowship and a Young Physician-Scientist Award from the American Society for Clinical Investigation. His research has been supported by the NIH, Department of Defense, and numerous philanthropic organizations. He has published over 80 manuscripts in prominent peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Kropski is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians, and regularly speaks at national and international meetings. He cares for interstitial lung disease patients at the Nashville VA Medical Center.
