Professional Bio
Kasey Vickers, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His research program has been uniquely shaped by his distinctive training history in cardiovascular sciences, fashioned by education, extensive work experience, and collaboration with leaders in the field. The global focus of his research is to investigate alternative functions of lipoproteins and gene regulatory modules in atherosclerosis, inflammation, and lipid metabolism. Dr. Vickers' research program is primarily focused on intercellular communication mediated by lipoprotein transport of host and non-host small RNAs (sRNA). His research aims to gain a fundamental understanding of the functional impact of sRNAs on lipoproteins and their cell-to-cell communication networks to be able to predict, prevent, and treat atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and other inflammatory diseases. His laboratory studies the mechanisms and consequences of microRNAs (miRNA), tRNA-derived sRNAs, and other sRNAs within cholesterol and lipid pathways underlying metabolic networks and inflammation.
