Professional Bio
Kelly Taylor, MS, is a Senior Associate Medicine in the Division of Genetic Medicine, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Ms. Taylor provides clinical care as a cancer genetic counselor for the VUMC Hereditary Cancer Program and is a faculty member for the Vanderbilt Master of Genetic Counseling Program. She co-directs the VUMGC two semester Research for Genetic Counselors course, is the Vice-Chair for the VUMGC Research Review Committee, is a thesis advisor for VUMCG students and supervises VUMGC students during their clinical rotations.
Her experience includes work as a clinical and research genetic counselor and a provider of genetics and genetic counseling education. As a clinical counselor, she has focused on patients with a personal and/or family history of cancer. As a research genetic counselor, she has been responsible for project management for a variety of genetic studies. Her responsibilities have included development of research protocols and consent forms, ascertainment and enrollment of study participants and oversight of regulatory compliance with IRB and HIPAA regulations. Ms. Taylor developed and was the course director for the VUMC Master of Science in Clinical Investigation Human Genetics course for five years. She has lectured in courses for undergraduate and graduate genetic counseling and human genetic students and has been a clinical supervisor for genetic counseling interns, medical students, residents, and fellows.
Ms. Taylor has been a leader in the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the Tennessee Genetic Counselors Association. She was a member of working group that led the introduction and passage of genetic counselor licensure legislation in Tennessee.
