Kimberly Dahlman, PhD

Associate Professor of Medicine

Division of Hematology Oncology
Kimberly Dahlman
Professional Bio
Kimberly Dahlman, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University medical Center with a research interest in understanding tumor response and resistance to targeted therapies and immunotherapy. She directs a core laboratory (Innovative Translational Research Shared Resource) that partners with oncologists to guide, manage, and facilitate pre-clinical and clinical trial laboratory discoveries. This collaborative work has uncovered novel tumor driver mutations and mechanisms of acquired resistance to targeted therapies leading to changes in clinical tumor genotyping assays at VUMC, pre-clinical studies of novel cancer treatments, high-impact peer-reviewed publications, and multiple grants awarded. In addition to her cancer research pursuits, she has a strong interest in education for biomedical science PhD trainees, medical students, and faculty. She co-leads the Immersion Phase for Curriculum 2.0 at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) and co-directs the "Precision Cancer Medicine" Integrated Science Course. She also serves as Research Education Core co-director for the Meharry-Vanderbilt-TSU cancer partnership and is director of the Vanderbilt Education, Research, and Training In Cancer and Leadership (VERTICAL) post-baccalaureate program. Dr. Dahlman has been recognized for her outstanding educational contributions by election to the VUSM Vanderbilt Academy for Excellence in Education and designation as a Master Science Teacher. Nationally, she is President-Elect of the Association of Biochemistry Educators and is the Program Chair for the 2024 International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) Conference. Recently she was awarded the Denis M. O'Day award for Team Implemented Curriculum from VUSM, the Early Career Award for Excellence in Teaching and Innovation from IAMSE, and the Stephen Abrahamson Award for Innovation from the Keck School of Medicine.
