Professional Bio
Laura Burkhart, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Burkhart completed her fellowship in adolescent medicine at Seattle Children's Hospital, and her interests are centered around adolescent and young adult populations. Her research explores access to care and health resources, with an emphasis on sexual health and sexual assault resources for college students. She is also interested in the intersection and utilization of social media to disseminate health information. She has a particular interest in technology-facilitated sexual violence and its impact on adolescents and young adults. Dr. Burkhart’s general clinical interests are taking care of college students and addressing the range of conditions that impact them, including sexual trauma. She has taken additional specialized training to care for this population, including training in sexual assault forensic exams.
