Professional Bio
Lyndsay Nelson, PhD, is a Research Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is a social psychologist with expertise in experimental and translational health psychology.
She received her MA in experimental psychology from Appalachian State University and her PhD in social/experimental psychology from East Tennessee State University. After completing her doctoral program, she began a postdoc at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Nelson's research is grounded in self-care promotion for type 2 diabetes and technology- and community-based health interventions for underserved populations. She has examined user engagement, usability, and effectiveness of several technology-based health interventions for diabetes, including both mobile- and web-based. Dr. Nelson has received advanced training in implementation science which is applying to her work in digital health interventions.
Dr. Nelson's career goals include designing digital tools that reduce health disparities and implementing these tools in routine clinical care.
