Mackenzie was born and raised in Statesville, North Carolina, the third of four children and the first in her family to go into medicine. She has been passionate about global health since high school and has traveled extensively in Latin America for medical missions. Mackenzie attended Vanderbilt University for undergrad, where she studied molecular biology and Spanish and conducted research in mosquito-transmitted disease. At Eastern Virginia Medical School, she coached a Special Olympics gymnastics team and developed interests in high-value care, quality improvement, and medical education. Mackenzie is interested in caring for patients across the entire age continuum, with a focus on improving health equity for underserved immigrants. In her free time, she enjoys reading, music, spending time with her friends, staying involved with her church, and outdoor adventure in every form. She is excited to return to Nashville as a Med-Peds resident and Double ‘Dore!
