Mahsima was born and raised in Rasht, Iran, before moving to Tehran for medical school. Her passion for decreasing health disparities in different gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic groups led her to pursue MPH training. After graduation, her interest in cardiovascular clinical research brought her to her first family in the US, Dr. Lima’s lab at Johns Hopkins University. As a post-doc fellow, she used cardiovascular imaging-based phenotypes to study the genetics of common cardiovascular diseases. During her medical school years, Mahsima witnessed the unexpected heart attack of her dad, a middle-aged low-risk individual. That unfortunate event drew her attention to the importance of differences in individuals, the principle of Precision Medicine. She dreams of a career in cardiovascular precision medicine. Thus, Mahsima is very excited to be joining the VUMC family, one of the nation’s top institutions in Precision Medicine and Cardiology. Mahsima loves exploring! Also, being raised in the creative city in Gastronomy (Rasht) made her a foodie. So, in her spare time, she can be found in new restaurants or cafes or on a road trip to discover new spots and get to know new people.
