Professional Bio
Maie El-Sourady, MD, MS, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Internal Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is Director of the Palliative Care Education Committee and a Diversity Liaison for her division. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Vanderbilt Med-Peds Outpatient Curriculum, published on the McGraw-Hill AccessMedicine digital platform.
Dr. El-Sourady completed her undergraduate training at Duke University, and received her Masters of Science in Nutritional Biochemistry from UNC-Chapel Hill. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine, and then completed an Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency and a Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Vanderbilt.
Dr. El-Sourady's academic interests include communication between medical providers and patients, as well as medical student, resident, and fellow education. She teaches communication skills both within VUMC and nationally. She enjoys working with patients with serious illnesses and their families, both in her role as a primary care physician in Med-Peds clinic and as a Palliative Care consultant.
