Maria was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and moved to Miami when she was 9 years old. She attended the University of Florida (Go Gators!), where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences with a minor in French and Francophone Studies. After graduation, Maria stayed in Florida to pursue her medical degree at Nova Southeastern University College of Allopathic Medicine. Throughout medical school, she discovered her passion for mentoring and teaching, especially enjoying the opportunity to teach the Hispanic community about diabetes in Spanish. Outside of her studies, Maria loves to sing and has been involved in different choirs since high school. She also enjoys spending quality time with her fiancé, Javier, and their playful mini Goldendoodle, Maya. Maria is also an avid romance and mystery reader and has recently started learning the violin—still a work in progress, but she’s enjoying the challenge!
