Professional Bio
Matthew Mart, MD, MSCI, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed his clinical fellowship training in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care at Vanderbilt University. During that time, he also participated in an NHLBI-funded T32 post-doctoral research training program and completed a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) degree. Dr. Mart conducts clinical and translational research through the Critical Illness, Brain Dysfunction, and Survivorship (CIBS) Center led by Dr. Wes Ely. His research focuses on clinical factors and translational mechanisms driving persistent impairments in physical and cognitive function after the ICU. He is also involved in cognitive and exercise rehabilitation studies both at Vanderbilt and the Nashville VA Medical Center. His research has been supported through funding from the Arthur and Lisa Wheeler Critical Care Research Fund and the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR). He also has also received support as a co-investigator on an exercise rehabilitation study for COVID-19 survivors through the Society of Critical Care Medicine Discovery Grant.
