Assistant Professor of Medicine

Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health
McKenzie Roddy
Professional Bio
McKenzie K. Roddy, PhD, MS, is a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with Honors, and her Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from the University of Miami. Dr. Roddy completed her American Psychological Association-accredited clinical internship at Baylor College of Medicine, and a fellowship with the Quality Scholar Program at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. Her research aims to advance the science, application, and implementation of interventions that leverage the positive influence of close interpersonal relationships on health. She began her research career investigating the impact of an online couple therapy program on individual health. Currently, Dr. Roddy is supported by the Vanderbilt Faculty Research Scholar award to explore mediators and moderators of effects of a family-focused intervention for adults with Type 2 diabetes to develop hypotheses to be tested in a subsequent adaptive intervention. She uses a mixed-method approach to understand how individual, relational, and clinical factors moderate engagement with the intervention, and identify alternative intervention components for consideration in the design of the adaptive intervention. Dr. Roddy's long-term career goal is to become a recognized leader in the influence of relationships on health, specifically focused on the optimization of behavioral interventions to improve health for patients within the context of their relationships.
