Megan Shuey-Henthorn, PhD, MS

Research Assistant Professor of Medicine

Division of Genetic Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology
Megan Shuey-Henthorn
Professional Bio
Megan M. Shuey, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Genetic Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. As a trained pharmacologist and evolutionary geneticist, she has a wide-ranging research background, including: phylogenomic reconstruction, assay development, electronic health record (EHR)-based study design, and clinical evaluation of medication response. She earned her master’s in Biological Sciences, Bacterial Genetics from Northern Arizona University, her PhD in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt, and completed a fellowship in Genetic Medicine at Vanderbilt. Research in Dr. Shuey's laboratory focuses on developing methods that incorporate various genetic tools and publicly available resources to identify potential novel drug-repurposing targets. In addition to this work, the laboratory also utilizes longitudinal data analysis techniques to predict disease and adverse outcome risk relating to various cardiometabolic diseases. To accomplish these goals Dr. Shuey actively participates in various large consortia (NIH's polygenic risk methods in diverse populations 'PRIMED' and the Host Genomics Initiative) and has established collaborations across various universities and electronic health record resources.
