Professional Bio
Michael Lester, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He graduated from UAB with a bachelor’s degree in physics with a biophysics concentration, and attended Harvard Medical School before coming to Vanderbilt as an intern in internal medicine. He completed his residency at Vanderbilt and served as a chief resident, then stayed for a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. During his fellowship, Dr. Lester worked on translational therapies with the Vanderbilt Institute of Surgical Engineering with Bob Webster and Fabien Maldonado. Dr. Lester joined the VUMC faculty in 2021 as the Clinical Director for COPD. He specializes in evaluating patients for advanced therapies for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including lung volume reduction. He has brought several clinical trials to VUMC to ensure that COPD patients have access to cutting edge therapeutics.
