Professional Bio
Michael Savona, MD, is a physician scientist focused on addressing understanding risk of clonal hematopoiesis (CH), and developing new therapies in for myeloid malignancies, particularly, MDS/MPN overlap syndromes for which he developed the MDS/MPN International Working Group in 2012, and the ABNL MARRO International collaborative effort to test novel therapies for MDS/MPN. As world leader in development of novel therapies for these patients, his work has led to the approval of dozens of novel therapies targeting the proteosome, BCL2 family proteins, PI3 kinase, the JAK/STAT pathway, and various epigenetic agents.
He has been involved in vascular, hematology and stem cell biology research for over 20 years, and has published manuscripts in major academic journals including: Cancer Discovery, Blood, Cell Stem Cell, JAMA, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Lancet Oncology, Lancet Haematology, Nature Genetics, Nature Medicine, and Nature Reviews.
He is board certified in hematology, an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Clinical Scholar. He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as an officer of the USAF.
